There is approximately 150 vintage clock designs. The first design was the Ball Clock 4755. All George Nelson clocks were electric. The George Nelson design was discontinued in the 1980′s but Vitra picked the line up in the 90′s.
The original George Nelson designs were given numbers by Howard Miller rather than names. The famous Sunflower clock was sold by Howard Miller as Clock 2261 and the Ball Clock was Clock 4755. Most of the clocks were sold with a variety of different colors. The Sunflower clock was sold in three different colors and the Ball clock was sold in six different colors.
These retro vintage George Nelson design clocks are still very sought after even today. They make a great gift or perfect for the collector.

Seth Thomas started in the clock business in 1807, working for a clock maker by the name of Eli Terry. Seth Thomas bought Eli’s clock business in 1810 but sold his partnership and moved to Plymouth Hollow, CT in 1812 to start a factory to manufacture metal movement clocks. After the death of Thomas in 1859 Plymouth Hollow was renamed to Thomaston in honor of Seth Thomas in 1875.

The Seth Thomas Clock Company was officially incorporated in 1853. Seth Thomas produces many styles of clocks such as mantel clocks, wall clocks, table top clocks, indoor outdoor clocks, anniversary clocks, furniture clocks and home decor themed clocks.
Many vintage Seth Thomas clocks are available online and are valuable keepsakes or family heirlooms.

Franz Kettler, who live in the middle of the black forest in Germany in a village called Triberg hand crafted the first design. He had intricately hand carved the clock and also the cuckoo bird. The cuckoo bird would do its thing at the top of every hour with chimes, pendulums, and weights.

As you search for these cuckoo clocks you will see traditional designs such as the 5 leaf cuckoo clock. The clock comes in different sizes. The clock is usually finished in Walnut with small painted flowers. The larger version is typically designed to be a eight day clock which only has to be wound once a week.
